Sports Desk:
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections will take place in the first week of October, confirmed BCB director and Cricket Operations Committee chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim after the 21st Board Meeting held in Sylhet on Monday.
“The specific date of the election will be announced by the Election Commission,” Fahim said.
The Election Commission, however, has not yet been officially formed. Fahim informed that recommendations have already been made, and a three-member commission will be finalised and announced within the next two to three days. The responsibility of forming the commission has been left to the BCB president.
Among other decisions, the board approved IMG as the marketing partner of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the next three years.
Former Australian umpire Simon Taufel has also been contracted by the board for two years. He will work across umpiring and match officiating structures, including assessment and grading of umpires.
The board also formed a four-member committee to review the BPL findings and provide recommendations to the BCB, with legal experts assisting on compliance issues.
Meanwhile, Julian Wood’s contract will not be extended beyond 3 September. If needed later, he will be brought back again. It does not seem necessary to keep a power-hitting coach throughout the year.
The meeting was chaired by the BCB boss Aminul Islam Bulbul. However, he didn’t face the media after the meeting.
