Sports Desk:
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that they will appoint an independent audit firm to review past financial transactions of the board.
In the recent past, several reports were published in different media suggesting a huge financial corruption in the board.
“We are appointing an independent audit company (to review financial transactions),” BCB president Faruque Ahmed said on Thursday.
“This is a new regime and we hope to work independently. We will make it public ( if there is no legal complication) and if there is some legal obligation we will try to provide the key point of their finding,” he said, adding that he also wants to reopen the World Cup failure assessment report that was submitted by a three-member committee earlier.
“There had been corruption (in the board). I have to admit and everyone knows that,” Faruque admitted.
It is understood that Faruque also wants to reopen several reports that went into the store room of BCB.
If the World Cup assessment report is taken into consideration, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s days might be numbered considering the member of the committee insisted that the Sri Lankan had played a big role behind the debacle with his dictator-like attitude.
If Hathurusingha is sacked before his contract ends, BCB will have to pay him three month’s salary which is more than $100K.
A BCB source confirmed that the board president is getting in touch with coaches to know their mind and whether they are interested to take up the job if the head coach post is offered to them.
The tender process for the Sheikh Hasina International Stadium which was due to be built in Purbachal has also been cancelled, the BCB president revealed after the latest board meeting on Thursday.
“The stadium’s tender process’s last date was yesterday and we have cancelled it following everyone’s approval,” said Faruque.
The board meeting was supposed to shed light on the new standing committees under Faruque but the standing committees have not yet been decided. Faruque revealed that chairman of women’s wing Shafiul Islam Nadel has tendered his resignation.
The newly-elected BCB president said that he was hopeful of holding the BPL in the right time but first he will be focusing on organizing the teams that will participate.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and head coach Hathurusingha have been in the limelight for separate reasons. Faruque said that a decision on Hathurusingha will have to wait until the Pakistan series ends.
Questions had been raised over whether Shakib will be allowed to travel and stay outside the country and yet continue to play. Faruque said that Shakib will continue staying outside since he has been handed NOC to play in county cricket, but a decision will be taken regarding the matter after the India series.
