Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday announced that Mr. M. Najmul Islam has been relieved of his responsibilities as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect, in a move aimed at de-escalating tensions with the country’s cricketers.

In a media release, the BCB said the decision was taken by the BCB President under Article 31 of the board’s constitution “in the best interest of the organisation” and to ensure the “smooth and effective functioning of the Board’s affairs”.

Until further notice, the BCB President will serve as Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee.

The board reaffirmed that the “interests of the cricketers remain its highest priority” and reiterated its commitment to “upholding the honour and dignity of all players under its jurisdiction.”

The BCB urged players to maintain professionalism and dedication during what it described as a “challenging period” and to continue their participation in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The move comes amid a boycott by the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), which had threatened to halt all cricketing activities unless Najmul resigned following remarks players deemed insulting and demeaning. The boycott affected domestic fixtures, with players failing to report for matches earlier on Thursday.

BCB’s announcement is seen as a direct response to the fallout, aimed at restoring confidence and ensuring the continuity of the BPL season.

Further updates are expected as discussions between the BCB and CWAB continue.
