The European Union (EU) ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller said that the Bangladesh government will decide when the elections will be held. However, the EU also understands the need for reforms.
Miller said while addressing the DCAB Talk at the National Press Club on Monday.
In response to a question from the Ambassador said that the EU supports free and fair elections. The EU is also interested in providing assistance in the elections. However, the Bangladesh government will decide when the elections will be held.
When asked about the humanitarian corridor in Rakhine, Michael Miller said that humanitarian assistance is needed for the victims on both sides. It must be ensured that everyone receives relief assistance equally.
In response to another question, the Ambassador said that transparency must be ensured in the trial of those guilty of the deaths and injuries in the July mass uprising.
Michael Miller said, “In view of the changing political landscape, reforms have now brought a big opportunity. This opportunity must be utilized.”
