Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, was sent to jail in a graft case on Thursday.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) produced him before the court, seeking his confinement in jail, said an ACC official.
Around 4:00pm, Prof Kalimullah was escorted to the courtroom amid tight security.
Twelve minutes later, he was taken to the dock. He remained standing as the hearing began at 4:22pm. The hearing ended at 4:38pm.
A team of detectives arrested him from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area around 12:15pm.
Later, Prof Kalimullah was handed over to the ACC.
The ACC on June 18 filed a case against five people, including Kalimullah, on charges of embezzling Tk 4 crore from a development project.
