Smuggled goods worth at around Tk 10m

A Correspondent, Feni:

Border Guard Bangladesh has seized a large amount of smuggled Indian textile materials from the border area at Feni’s Chhagalnaiya Upazila.

The cloth materials were seized along with the pickup truck carrying them from near Muzaffar Mosque at Chandgazi in Mohamaya Union on Monday evening, said Feni-4 BGB chief Lt Col Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain.

A patrol team of the Feni Battalion BOP under the Cumilla sector conducted a raid in the border area based on a tip-off, BGB said in a press statement.

They found a pickup truck operating suspiciously in the Muzaffar Mosque area and signaled the vehicle to stop. Seeing the BGB, the driver fled the scene, abandoning the pickup.

The BGB members raided the vehicle and recovered 20 gites, or bundles, of Indian cloth materials. The seized materials were worth more than Tk 10 million.

They also seized the pickup used for the smuggling operation.

The process of handing over the materials to the Feni Customs Office is underway, said BGB officer Mosharraf.
