On the allegation of bribery and irregularities, local agitating people on Saturday morning snatched away the exam papers, while holding recruitment exam at Maltinagar Hazrat Shahjamal Dakhil Madrasa under Dhubil Union of Raiganj Upazila in Sirajganj district.
Later, in the face of public outcry, DG’s representative Murshida Karim was forced to flee scene after suspending the recruitment exam that creates sensation in the area.
It is learned that, a so-called recruitment test was organized there to recruit secretly selected candidates against the two posts of Superintendent and Head of Ebtedayi section for the madrasa.
Of them, eight candidates applied for the post of Superintendent and four candidates for the post of Ebtedayi Head. But most of the job seekers were not called for participating in the recruitment test.
Later, upon receiving the news, the applicants and their relatives along with local residents and media personnel reached the spot.
During the secret examination, the public, who were present at the spot, directly lodged a written complaint with the DG’s representative Murshida Karim alleging recruitment racketeering and demanded postpone of the nominal examination.
However, since the DG’s representative Murshida Karim had already come to take the examination under a contract of a large sum of money, she refused to cancel the examination and continued the examination, locals complained.
At that time, the local people got angry and entered into the examination center and took away the exam papers forcibly.
Later, in the face of public outcry, the DG’s representative Murshida Karim suspended the recruitment examination and left the scene quickly.
Dhubil Union BNP’s co-promotion secretary Dulal Hossain said, “We have received complaints that, the recruitment process was being carried out on the basis of irregularities. We have learned from various sources that, an attempt was made to recruit the people scheduled for two posts in exchange for about Tk 25 lakh by staging a nominal examination. The DG’s representative, Upazila Education Officer and District Education Officer were also involved in the incident as they might have been managed by the exam organizers in exchange of money.”
Madrasa Management Committee President Abul Kalam Azad alias Pilu claimed that, the recruitment test of the institution was being conducted according to the rules. However, some people reached to the spot and introducing themselves as media workers demanded money raising allegation of bribery and anomalies. At that time, a bargaining over the issue was also going on between the both parties. However, at one point, locals rushed to the spot and spoiled the test.
On the face of people protest, the DG’s representative suspended the recruitment test and left the spot rapidly.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Amir Hossain said that, “The recruitment test started as per the rules. Later, based on the complaints of the locals, the DG’s representative suspended the recruitment test and left the spot.”
Upazila Executive Officer Humayun Kabir said, “I was not aware of that recruitment. Later, after discussing with the Upazila Education Officer and the DG’s representative, the recruitment test was postponed.”
Declining the allegation of receiving bribe, DG’s representative Murshida Karim said, “I did not know whether there were any complaints of irregularities in the recruitment examination. It was postponed in the face of public outcry after receiving written complaints. So, I have no fault.”
Some media workers, who were present there, on condition of anonymity, said that, the journalists had no role in the suspension of the recruitment and taking away the examination papers. However, several journalists were present there for professional reasons.”
