BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi remarked on Saturday that the BNP cannot be intimidated with the threat of 1/11.
He said that the interim government is attempting to garner support by using the fear of 1/11.
He said: “Let me make it clear, there is no benefit in using fear tactics. The people want a transparent election based on everyone’s opinions, which Sheikh Hasina has not allowed.”
Rizvi made these comments at a prayer and memorial meeting organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP on the occasion of Arafat Rahman Koko’s death anniversary.
He further added: “A particular group is deliberately spreading propaganda to tarnish our image. Our party has always stood for free and fair elections. BNP has always been vocal about restoring the voting rights of the people, and it remains so Saturday and will continue in the future.”
Rizvi also said, “The interim government, born out of the movements and sacrifices of students and the public, was expected to fulfill the aspirations of the people. However, they are not focusing on necessary reforms. Factories are shutting down, the economy is declining. Instead of prioritizing public welfare, the government is engaged in convoluted schemes.”
He concluded by saying that, “BNP believes that to uphold democracy, the government must ensure fair elections. If necessary, they should engage in discussions with political parties and even take legislative measures. The contributions of students, the public, and political parties cannot be ignored. Actions or statements made under the guise of civil society cannot be accepted.”
