Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) does not engage in any activity that lacks public support, said the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday (February 22).

“BNP’s primary focus is the people and the country, and if allowed to govern, BNP will prioritise rebuilding the nation,” he said while addressing the biennial conference of BNP’s Jashore district unit, being held at the central Eidgah ground.

“Actions have been taken against party members involved in unethical activities. Therefore, people should not be misled by propaganda against BNP, as the party has always proven that it does not compromise with injustice,” Tarique said.

A free and fair election must be held as soon as possible to rebuild the nation in line with the expectations of the country’s people, he added.

Tarique continued, “While many are now discussing reforms, it was BNP that first advocated for rebuilding the country two and a half years ago, boldly challenging autocratic rule and presenting a 31-point reform agenda.”

BNP’s main political objective is to serve the people and the country, he said, adding “Therefore, BNP can rebuild the broken state.”

The biennial conference of the Jashore district unit, being held after 16 years, was inaugurated by senior party leader Amanullah Aman, one of the advisers of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The event, which started at 10:30am, was presided over by the district unit’s Convener Prof Nargis Begum.
