BNP leader among 2 killed in Sirajganj road accidents

A BNP leader was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Bogura highway near Bhuiyangati Palli Bidyut office in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district.

The deceased is Asad Ali Sarker, 55, former General Secretary and Member of Sonakhara Union Parishad in the upazila.

Police and victim’s family sources said, he received serious injuries, when a truck hit him in front of Bhuiyanganti Palli Bidyut office on Friday morning. He was taken to TMSS Medical College in Bogura. But, he was referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College as his condition deteriorated further.

He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Ziaur Rahman Medical College on Saturday morning.

Locals said, at least 20 people lost their lives in different accident took place nearby Bhuiyanganti overbridge in the last few months due to lack of side lane or service lane. Negligence in constructing service lane at the mentioned place on the under construction four lane from Elenga to Rangpur is the main reason behind the frequent accidents, locals claimed.

On the other hand, a youth, who sustained serious injuries in a private car accident at Kashiahata area on the Sirajganj-Kodda regional road on Friday morning, died at Shamrita Hospital in Dhaka, while undergoing treatment. The deceased is Amir Hossain, 25, son of late Modina Pramanik of the Kashiahata village in Sadar upazila.
