RAB officials have arrested BNP’s suspended leader Sahab Uddin, 54, from the Kumarpara area of Sylhet city in the Sada Pathor looting case, the elite force said in a press release early Sunday.

Sahab Uddin was arrested from the city’s Kumarpara area at 11:15pm on Saturday, the press release said. He was handed over to the Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet city.

On 11 August, BNP halted the party post of Sahab Uddin, erstwhile president of the party’s unit at Companiganj upazila in Sylhet district, over his alleged role in the white stone looting scam.

Sahab Uddin has been shown arrested in the case filed by the Bureau of Mineral Development with the Companiganj Police Station in Sylhet district. The case statement accuses around 1,500 unidentified people of involvement in the massive looting of white stone and sand from the Sada Pathor area since 5 August last year.

Sahab Uddin was already accused in around six cases filed with the Companiganj Police Station, and Kotwali Police Station.

In March, reports ran that he illegally occupied 150-acre public land, chancing upon the security vacuum left by the ouster of fascist regime last August. In April, a BNP internal investigation also found credible proofs of his concerning involvement in grabbing and looting public properties.
