Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on Wednesday said that BNP has not demanded the reinstatement of the caretaker government system; rather, it wants the current interim government to function in a caretaker-style role.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat.
Three senior BNP leaders met Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday and conveyed the party’s positions on several issues ahead of the upcoming national election.
Asif Nazrul said the chief adviser has assured the BNP of maintaining neutrality.
“From now on, the chief adviser himself will supervise major transfers in the administration or elsewhere,” he added.
He further said when political parties face internal divisions, different comments tend to surface.
“I hope such doubts will disappear soon if effective progress is made in implementing the July Declaration,” he said.
Meanwhile, expressing satisfaction over the army personnels’ appearance before the International Crimes Tribunal, the adviser said, “The manner in which they have been brought, with respect for the judicial process, is highly commendable.”
“The cooperation shown by the army chief and his administration is also praiseworthy. We view their respect for the rule of law very positively,” he added.
