BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday that the party fully supports the July National Charter and is committed to implementing all proposals agreed upon through national consensus.

Speaking at an award distribution ceremony at the Pekua Ashraful Ulum Madrasa ground in Cox’s Bazar, Salahuddin said the BNP would act strictly within the framework of the charter.

“We will implement every proposal of the July National Charter that was signed on the basis of consensus. We have no position outside the charter and remain united on all nationally agreed issues,” he said.

Salahuddin said, “We do politics for the people of the country, to establish peace and order, establish the rule of law, establish democratic rights and ensure the constitutional rights of the people of the country. We all have to unite to do these. Based on that consensus, we have proposed some reforms. We will implement them nationally.”

He also said, “You know that martyred President Ziaur Rahman added Bismillah… for the first time in the Constitution of Bangladesh and adopted trust and faith in Allah Almighty as the basic principles of running the state, which was abolished by the Awami League fascist government. We have promised that if we are given responsibility, we will re-add trust and faith in Allah Almighty to the basic principles of the Constitution, InshaAllah.”
