The bodies of two missing children were recovered early Tuesday (April 29) from a pond in Cumilla’s Laksham municipality.
Locals recovered the bodies floating in the pond around 5:45 AM at Gunoti village under the municipality.
The dead were Jihad Hossain, 7, son of Rubel Hossain, and Sabbir Hossain Mohin, 10, son of Mohammad Ali. Both children were students at Gunoti Government Primary School — Jihad in class two and Mohin in class four.
According to locals and family members, the boys went missing on Monday (April 28) afternoon. Initially, their families assumed they had gone out to play. However, when they did to return by evening, the families began searching extensively, checking with relatives and across nearby areas but were unable to find any trace.
Early Tuesday morning, a local resident noticed a body floating in a nearby pond. Later, both children’s bodies were recovered from the water.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Chumki Barua, the duty officer at Laksham Police Station, confirmed the incident. “After receiving the information, police were dispatched to the scene. An unnatural death case has been filed regarding the incident,” she said.
