British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke has met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The meeting took place on Tuesday afternoon at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
It has been learned that discussions were held regarding preparations for the upcoming national parliamentary election, how to make the election acceptable, and having the interim government function in the manner of a caretaker government.
During the meeting, members of the party’s Standing Committee Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir, Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid, and central committee member Tabith Awal were present.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury later told journalists that discussions were held on bilateral matters, including preparations for the upcoming election. He said there were detailed discussions activities being conducted leading up to the upcoming election, the EC’s preparations, the EC’s activities, BNP’s preparations, and about a neutral, acceptable election.
He also stated that the issue of the interim government functioning in the manner of a caretaker government during the election period, for the sake of a neutral election, also came up in the discussion.
