Concern grows among the people after deadly murder of a college student by a unified teenage gang in Sirajganj town yesterday.

Conscious parents fear for the safety of their children when they leave the house to go to school, college, or any other places for necessary works.

According to a video footage and police statement, a group of 12 to 15 teenagers equipped with several sharp weapons intercepted a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw at Chowrasta intersection near police outpost number-1 in Sirajganj town at around 4:00 PM on Sunday and chopped its passenger and also local college student Abdur Rahman Riyad brutally with the Chinese axes and knives in broad daylight. Then, the attackers left the scene rising heads in front of everyone.

The victim was taken to M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital in the town, there the on duty doctors declared him dead at around 7:00pm.

Just after the incident, a video went viral through the social media facebook that grows concern among the people. Not only that, questions have surfaced over the role of law enforcers and current law and order situation in the town.

The deceased Riyad was son of Rejaul Karim of Soyadhanghora Khanpara area and also first year student of Islamia Government College in the town.

Nazran Rouf, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) said, after the incident, we have arrested three suspects and interrogation is underway. Victim’s father Rejaul Karim filed a case accusing 20 persons including naming 11 in this connection.

The arrested are Ashique, son of Abdus Sattar, Sakib Ibrahim, son of Jamal Sheikh and Mehedi Hasan, son of Uzzal Hossain of Dhanbandhi area in the town. Investigation and effort to arrest other involved persons are going on, the officer said.

Shahidul Islam, Officer in Charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said, “We are trying to arrest the killers as soon as possible. Besides, security measures have been tightened across the town to avert further untoward incidents.”

It is to be mentioned that, the law and order situation has been questioned as despite several attempts of the law enforcers, the incidents of clashes between several areas have now become a regular phenomenon in the town for the last few months.

Seeking anonymity, many guardians expressed concern over the safety of their school and college going children.
