Desk Report:

The number of passengers increased at Kamalapur railway station and bus terminal on the fourth day of the Eid journey. Eid journey by rail is good, but due to extra fares and traffic congestion, the passengers have to suffer.

Passengers say that some transport fares have been doubled. Also, many buses are forcing passengers to pay a fare equal to the ticket price of the final destination of the particular route up to halfway.

However, the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association has assured that take appropriate action after verifying the complaint of charging extra fares.

Visiting the bus terminal, it was seen that most of the buses were charging extra fare. According to passengers, transport operators are forcing passengers to pay extra fares in a chaotic environment. As the days go by the chaos will increase. All in all, people who left Dhaka to celebrate the joy of Eid with their families are suffering.

Imtiaz, a passenger at Gabtali bus terminal, said that every time during Eid, passengers have to pay extra fare to go home. Even a few weeks ago, the ticket price for AC bus service Orin Paribahan in Gaibandha was tk 1000; That ticket is now not available even for two thousand takas.

Regarding the additional fare collection, a ticket seller of Orin Paribahan at Gabtali Bus Terminal said on condition of anonymity that when a bus goes outside Dhaka, if it has three passengers on its way back to

Dhaka, the bus has to return to Dhaka. Then our expenses increase. Sometimes passengers are charged higher fares to cover that cost. I can’t say more than that.

Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners Association has set up a booth to control the excess fare at the Gabtali Bus Counter. Babul Hossain, the field supervisor of the booth, said that bus owners do not want to give any discount during Eid, although they give discounts at other times. Because everyone wants to make a profit on Eid. When asked about the reason for charging higher fare from intermediate passengers, he said, there is no obligation to charge higher fare from intermediate passengers. They have to pay the last distance fare as per the bus route.
