“Yes, he is doubtful but you cannot say he is ruled out as we will make a final call regarding Najmul after seeing the MRI report,” said the official.
The Bangladesh team management had a sleepless night worrying about the availability of their skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is doubtful for the series decider against Afghanistan, scheduled for Monday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
A BCB official confirmed the development to Daily Sun, adding that a final decision will be taken after getting the MRI report.
“Yes, he is doubtful but you cannot say he is ruled out as we will make a final call regarding Najmul after seeing the MRI report,” said the official.
“The MRI is done but we have not received the report yet,” he added.
Mehidy Hasan led the team in the absence of Najmul in the second ODI after the latter left the field following a hand injury.
After the second ODI, Najmul said that he was impressed with the captaincy of Mehidy.
“I think Miraz did a good job (as the stand-in captain). It was a difficult one for him, especially taking up the role in a pressure match like this one. I wasn’t anxious from outside, as we had Miraz and Riyad bhai handling the team in the middle,” said the skipper, who scored a match-winning 72 runs in their do-or-die second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan.
