Professor Dr Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) to the Chief Advisor of GOB visited the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Plant site in Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex under Pabna district on Wednesday, according to a press release.

This is one of the 29 hospitals across Bangladesh where UNOPS, together with its partners the  Communicable Disease Control (CDC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), and with funding from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, is constructing oxygen plant facilities to support the national healthcare system.

This significant visit highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the health sector’s capacity to ensure sustainable and accessible healthcare for all citizens.

During the visit, Prof Dr Sayedur Rahman reviewed the plant’s operational status and its role in producing high-quality medical-grade oxygen.

The PSA Plant is set to be a cornerstone of local healthcare resilience and pandemic preparedness. The initiative is set to impact the lives of over 8.2 million people nationwide.

To date, 27 out of the 29 PSA oxygen plants have been completed and handed over to the Government of Bangladesh, with the remaining two sites scheduled for handover by the end of this year.

Speaking about this visit, Prof Dr Sayedur Rahman, said, “We aim to scale this up nationwide as a sustainable solution to strengthen health infrastructure, providing better support to patients while reducing dependency on external oxygen sources.”

“In another note, he expressed his deep satisfaction with the integrated system, emphasizing its high quality and potential to enhance hospital capacity through cost-effective yet highly impactful technology,” he added.

Prof Dr Sayedur Rahman’s visit further highlights the importance of collaborative leadership in advancing Bangladesh’s healthcare infrastructure. The visit also includes an inspection of the plant’s ongoing facilities, discussions with key stakeholders, and an overview of future enhancements aimed at scaling up production capacity.

The presence of these high-level officials reaffirms the government’s strategic focus on health system strengthening and resilience-building in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
