A Dhaka court has indicted Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, expelled Jubo League leader and casino kingpin, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 Judge Md Jakaria Hossain on Thursday (July 17) dismissed a plea from Samrat’s lawyer to extend time and proceeded to frame charges against him.
The court denied bail and also issued an arrest warrant against Samrat as he was absent during the hearing.
Besides, the court fixed 17 August for witness testimony in the case, according to bench assistant Zahidur Rahman.
Earlier on 12 November 2019, the ACC filed the case against Samrat accusing him of acquiring Tk2.94 crore in illegal wealth.
A chargesheet submitted on 26 November, 2020 later accused Samrat of amassing Tk222.88 crore in assets beyond known sources of income.
Samrat was arrested on 6 October 2019 from Cumilla along with then Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman, during a nationwide anti-casino crackdown.
