Chandpur 150 MW combined cycle power generation plant has returned to production after one month and eight days of shutdown. On April 5, the power plant was shut down due to a small fire caused by oil leakage in the generator bearings.
On Tuesday (May 13) around 3 am, it was able to produce 50 MW out of 100 MW units with gas crisis.
Mohammad NurulAbshar, manager (supervisory engineer) of the power plant, said after being shut down for 14 months as a part of regular testing since December 2022, the gas turbine with a power generation capacity of 150 MW came into production on March 10 of this year. However, another 50 MW unit could not be commissioned. On April 5, a small fire caused by oil leakage in the generator bearings halted production again.
He also said that power generation has started again after one month and eight days shutdown due to well leakage repair work in the bearing. However, due to gas shortage, the production of 50 MW of 100 MW unit is now possible. Talked to the gas company. If the supplyof gas increases, 100 MW production will be possible. Currently 50 MW of electricity generated will be connected to the national grid.
This power generation plant has two units. One is 100 MW and the other is 50 MW. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of this power plant on April 25, 2010. The center started generatingelectricity from March 2012. Chinese company Chengda Engineering Limited built this power plant at a cost of Tk 1,200 crore.
