BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed the hope that Chhatra Dal panel will win the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections if free and fair elections are held.
He said this before a discussion meeting and rally organized by Dhaka District BNP on the occasion of BNP’s 47th founding anniversary on Wednesday.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Chhatra Dal is a party of movement, struggle along with principles and ideals. If DU students can freely exercise their voting rights, then Chhatra Dal panel will win.
Regarding the PR system currently under discussion, Rizvi said, “Suddenly some political parties are talking a lot. Brother, what is the PR system? Can any people answer the question? Can the people of the village, the common people of this country answer the question? It has never been used. There is no example of it. The people do not want it.”
He asked the leaders and activists present at the meeting, “Do you want elections through the PR system?” Then, the activists immediately shouted “No, no.”
Later, he said that the people want elections through the direct system.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Dhaka District BNP president Khondaker Abu Ashfaq, while general secretary Nipun Roy moderated it.
In addition, BNP Health Affairs secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Dr. Dewan Salauddin Babu, Tamiz Uddin, Swechchhasebak Dal vice-president Jahidul Kabir, Dr. Jahangir Hossain and Chhatra Dal vice-president Dr. Touhid Awal spoke on the occasion.
