In the recent situation, many mayors of various city corporations and municipalities have been consistently absent from work. In such a situation, the Government has “temporarily delegated full financial and administrative powers” to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) to continue the public services and keep the administrative activities running.
An office order was issued in this regard from the Local Government Division on Wednesday (August 14).
The office order states – it is learned from concerned municipal sources that due to the recent situation, many mayors of various city corporations and municipalities are consistently absent from work and their presence cannot be confirmed even when contacted. Besides, panel mayors of municipalities are also consistently absent from work.
In view of this, many activities of city corporations and municipalities have come to a standstill and public services are being disrupted, it said.
The order further states that the CEOs are temporarily vested with full financial and administrative powers to continue public services and administrative activities in city corporations and municipalities until further orders.
