Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed Saturday announced that judges will be recruited based on merit and qualifications.
“The judges will be appointed as per their merit. No unfair terms will be accepted,” he said.
He announced this in the Chief Justice’s address held at the Supreme Court Inner Garden on Saturday (September 21).
“I sought the cooperation of the government for the independence of the judiciary. Therefore, a ‘separate secretariat’ will be made for the judiciary to ensure this independence, which will be conducted under the Supreme Court,” said the Chief Justice.
He mentioned that a “separate policy” will be made for the appointment of judges. Rules for appointing judges to the Supreme Court should be made.
Declaring zero tolerance for accountability and anti-corruption in the judicial department, he said that any type of corruption should be removed from the judicial arena. In the case of corruption, the concerned district judge will be held responsible. Irregularity and corruption will not be tolerated in the Supreme Court Section.
“I have already given 12-point instructions in this regard. It will be strictly followed,” he added.
Prior to this, Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul and Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman and others spoke at the event.
Judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court, nearly 2,000 judges of the subordinate courts across the country, Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman of the Judiciary Reform Committee and others were present at the event.
