The elite forces of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 and 11 in a joint drive on May 26 arrested the main accused of police constable Rafiqul Islam killing case from Dewbhog Banglabazaar area in Narayanganj district.

The arrested has been identified as Nurul Islam, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Dhapsukhangari village in Dupchachiya upazila in Bogura district.

Quoting the case’s accusation, RAB-12 sources said that, a gang of dacoits led by the arrested Nurul Islam took control of a pickup-van loaded with six cattle from Basakhanpur area in Tangail Sadar upazila on April 24 last.

Later they (dacoits) tried to flee through Jamuna Bridge. When the truck crossed Jamuna Bridge and reached Jhaoil Bridge area with a high speed, it hit the on duty police constable Rafiqul Islam breaching the barricade and managed to flee.

After the incident, the injured cop Raiqul was admitted to Rajarbag police lines hospital in Dhaka. But a few hours later, he was referred to Ibn Sina Hospital, as his condition deteriorated further. At one stage, he succumbed to his injuries at the same hospital on April 27, while undergoing treatment.

A case was lodged with Jamuna Bridge western police station in this connection. But, the law enforcers faced difficulties due to lack of clue about the criminals. After a fanatic effort, RAB-12 intelligence team using its modern technologies was able to find out the clue of the case. As its part, RAB-12 forces in collaboration with RAB-11 conducted a drive and arrested the accused from the mentioned place, said Usman Gani, Sr Assistant Superintendent of Police and Media officer of RAB-12.
