The Bangladesh Meteorological Department, or BMD, has forecast a drop in temperatures from the first day of 2025.
According to Meteorologist Afroza Sultana, parts of the Rangpur Division could experience light rainfall this winter, particularly in the Bengali month of Paush.
On Saturday, she told bdnews24.com: “The temperature will decrease and the cold will increase on the first day of January. There is a possibility of light rain in one or two places in the Rangpur Division due to the influence of the normal low pressure areas of the season.”
A regular weather bulletin issued on Saturday morning reported the presence of a seasonal low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal, with its influence extending into the northeastern Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, the weather across the country is likely to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies for the time being. The Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, however, may see occasional light drizzles.
While night temperatures are expected to rise slightly nationwide, daytime temperatures are likely to remain stable. The BMD has also warned of light to moderate fog in certain regions, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours in the next day.
In the country’s northernmost district of Panchagarh, a mild cold wave is sweeping through Tentulia, where the mercury plunged to 9.3 degrees Celsius—the lowest temperature recorded in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours.
Other regions in the north have also experienced chillier weather, with Rajarhat in Kurigram registering a temperature as low as 10.8 degrees Celsius, Dinajpur 11 degrees, and Dimla in Nilphamari 11.5 degrees.
The highest temperature in the country during this period was recorded as 31.3 degrees Celsius in Teknaf.
