A complaint has been filed at a police station against journalist Anis Alamgir, actress Meher Afroz Shaon and two others over alleged cyber crimes.

The complaint was lodged by Ariyan Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, at Uttara West Police Station after 2:30am on Monday (15 December). However, it has not yet been registered as a formal case.

Two others accused in the complaint are model Maria Kispotta and media personality Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station Kazi Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed told journalists that further steps will be taken after discussions with higher authorities.

Saddam Hossain, assistant commissioner of Uttara West zone confirmed saying, “The case is yet to be registered with the police station. Waiting for the high ups approval.”

Meanwhile, complainant Ariyan Ahmed wrote on his verified Facebook page that he personally filed the complaint through legal channels at Uttara West Police Station against the four, alleging that they made provocative statements inciting what he termed Awami League-backed violent activities and made derogatory remarks about the July Uprising.

He added that the matter is currently under investigation by law enforcement agencies and that a case will be registered after the probe is completed, possibly as early as tomorrow. He also expressed full confidence in the justice system.
