A court in Chattogram on Tuesday granted a three-day remand for constable Ami Das, who was arrested in connection with the leak of a sensitive wireless message issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz.
Chattogram’s Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate, SM Alauddin Mahmud passed the order.
Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, Advocate Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, confirmed the journalist.
He said, “The investigating officer of the case applied for a seven-day remand to interrogate Ami Das. After the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand.”
On 11 August, Sub-Inspector of Bandar Police Station Abu Sayeed Rana was abruptly stabbed with a sharp weapon by Awami League activists during a rally.
The following day, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz issued a wireless instruction directing officers not to report for duty without arms and ammunition. He further instructed that if anyone raised weapons to attack, police would be allowed to open fire in self-defence.
This message was later leaked on social media in both audio and video formats, creating an embarrassing situation at the highest level of the police administration.
Investigators initially suspected that the message had been leaked by an insider. Multiple police teams were tasked with identifying the culprit, and evidence eventually pointed to telecom unit member Ami Das, leading to his arrest.
