A police constable was killed after being hit by a truck at Khilkhet in Dhaka early Saturday.

The deceased was Mohammad Raihan Sarkar, 28, son of retired police officer Mohammad Abdus Sobhan from Sarai village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.

Mohammad Abdul Aziz, sub-inspector of Khilkhet Police Station, said the accident occurred at around 12.30AM when Raihan was getting out of a police vehicle in Kuril Bishwa Road area and a Dhaka-bound truck hit him from behind, leaving him critically injured.

Raihan was promptly taken to the Kurmitola General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 1AM.

Police have seized the truck but the driver managed to flee the spot.

Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy on Saturday morning.
