A Dhaka court today accepted the charges pressed against Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and 13 others in a case filed over misappropriation of about Tk 25.22 crore of Grameen Telecom Workers’ Profit Participation Fund.

At the same time, the case was transferred to Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 for trial. The court has fixed May 2 for the next hearing.

On Tuesday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge A Samach Jaglul Hossain accepted the charge sheet.

On February 1, ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar filed the charge sheet against 14 people including Yunus at Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.

On May 30 of last year, ACC filed a case against Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Yunus and 13 others over misappropriating about Tk 25 crore 22 lakh 6 thousand 780 of Grameen Telecom Workers’ Profit Participation Fund. Gulshan Anwar, deputy director of ACC, filed the case as the main plaintiff. There were 13 accused in this ACC case. A new accused has been added to the charge sheet.

The 13 other accused, who have been named in the charge sheet, are Grameen Telecom Managing Director Nazmul Islam, Directors Ashraful Hassan, Naznin Sultana, Parvin Mahmud, M Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum, and SM Huzzatul Islam Latifee, Sramik-Karmachari Union President Kamruzzaman,

General Secretary Firoz Mahmud Hasan and representative Mainul Islam, Jatiya Workers’ Federation office secretary Kamrul Hasan, lawyers Zafrul Hasan Sharif and Yusuf Ali.

Of them, Kamrul was not a FIR named accused in the case; but his name was included in the charge sheet as his involvement was found during the investigation.

The accused have been charged under Sections 409/420/467/468/471/109 and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.
