A Dhaka court on Thursday issued a ban on Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam Kumar Biswas, working in RAB-2, from leaving the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain gave this order after the hearing.
Ruhul Haque, an assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and also the investigating officer of the case, sought a ban on Uttam Kumar Biswas from going abroad on behalf of the ACC. Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir was heard for ACC in the court.
During the hearing, the court wants to know whether Uttam Kumar Biswas is still working. ACC prosecutor replied that “he is still working”. After the hearing, the court granted an order banning Uttam Kumar from leaving the country.
ACC Assistant Director Ruhul Haque mentioned in his petition that investigations are currently underway regarding the allegations against Uttam Kumar Biswas of acquiring wealth beyond known income through various irregularities and corruption. In the meantime, the asset declaration notice has been issued and a report was submitted in the name of him and his wife.
Analyzing several records obtained from various banks and other institutions during the investigation, it is seen that he has withdrawn all the money from numerous accounts and closed the accounts immediately after receiving the ACC notice, which appears to be suspicious.
It is learned that Uttam Kumar Biswas has not cooperated in any way from the beginning of the investigation, however, has been making various attempts to disrupt the investigation by providing false and misleading information and causing undue delay.
