A Dhaka court today ordered to confiscation of 10.35 acres of land and other properties in the name of National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his family members.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain gave this order following ACC’s application on Thursday.
ACC lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed this information. He said that Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director applied to the court to order the seizure of Motiur’s property. After the hearing, the court granted the application and ordered.
Among the properties ordered to be confiscated is 114 per cent land in the name of Motiur in Muladi upazila in Barishal. 522.52 per cent land in Marjal Union of Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi district and a flat of 2445 square feet in Bashundhara of the capital in the name of his first wife Laila Kanij. 275.85 per cent of land in the name of his son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab.
Also, among the properties ordered to be confiscated are 106.56 per cent land of Farzana Rahman Ipsita, daughter of Matiur-Layla couple, in Raipura, Narsingdi, and a multi-storey building on 5 khata land in Bashundhara, Dhaka. A plot of Jigatla in Dhanmondi and 5 khata of land in Bashundhara in the name of Motiur’s second wife Shammi Akhtar Shivli.
Among these immovable properties, the total amount of land in the name of Matiur and his family members stands at 10.35 acres or 1035 per cent.
Following ACC’s application on June 24, Dhaka’s senior special judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain’s court banned Motiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kaniz and their son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab (Ifat) from travelling abroad. Then on June 30, Laila Kaniz applied to the court to cancel the foreign trip. The court is scheduled to hear the matter on July 28.
Ifat’s alleged father is a member of the National Revenue Board. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has investigated four times against Matiur Rahman for acquiring illegal assets. Each time the process ended from the search phase. Recently, the ACC has started a new investigation against Motiur.
Meanwhile, news has spread that Matiur Rahman has fled the country. Recently, a young man named Ifat bought a goat for 15 lakh taka for sacrifice. When the issue spread through social media, everyone started looking for the source of so much money. That’s when the name of National Revenue Board officer Matiur Rahman came forward. Although at one point Matiur also denied Rifat as his son. After the discussed incident, Motiur was not spared. He was removed from the post of NBR and attached to the Department of Internal Resources in the Ministry of Finance.
It is known that Motiur Rahman’s son bought a goat for Tk 1.5 lakh from Sadiq Agro in Mohammadpur of the capital and also bought cows for Tk 70 lakh from various farms in Dhaka. From then on, the discussion started about Motiur Rahman’s son’s expensive brand watches, cars, luxury lifestyle, resort, shooting spot, bungalow house, land and other properties in the name of Motiur Rahman and his family members. It is alleged that this government official has amused huge amounts of wealth through corruption.
