The International Crimes Tribunal is likely to set on Thursday the date for delivering its verdict in the case over crimes against humanity – committed during the July Uprising last year – filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Two other accused in the case included former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who later became an approver.

The trial of Hasina and two of her top aides is nearing its end, nearly 15 months after her downfall.

Legal proceedings concluded at the ICT after nine days of arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.

On Wednesday, the state-appointed defence counsel for Hasina and Asaduzzaman, and the defence lawyer for Mamun concluded their arguments in the case.

The ICT-1, headed by its chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, may set the date for delivering its verdict following the concluding statements from the chief prosecutor and the attorney general on Thursday.
