A Chattogram court on Thursday rejected the bail appeal filed for ex-ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case filed in connection with disrespecting the national flag of Bangladesh.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam rejected the bail plea after hearing arguments from both sides for around 30 minutes, said Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Advocate Mofizur Haque Bhuiyan.
Earlier in the day, a team of 11 Supreme Court lawyers arrived at the court around 10:15 am to represent Chinmoy in the high-profile case. Despite their efforts, the court’s decision went against their plea.
Meanwhile, Chinmoy’s lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya said, “The court has listened to our arguments. The bail has been rejected. We will approach the higher court.”
