Ctg Correspondent:
A police officer of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has been withdrawn after a video went viral on social media showing him taking money from a lawyer inside the court building.
The officer was identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahin Bhuiyan, who was serving as a general registration officer for cases under the Women and Children Repression Act in the CMP prosecution department. He was stationed in an office on the first floor of the new court building.
The 32-second video shows SI Shahin in his office while lawyer Tanmoy Basak hands him three currency notes. Shahin is then seen counting the money and keeping it.
“We have seen the video. Shahin has been withdrawn and attached to the police lines,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mofiz Uddin, head of the CMP prosecution division in court.
“Both giving and receiving bribes are criminal offences. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken,” he added.
Following the circulation of the video, CMP authorities removed Shahin from the prosecution department and attached him to the police lines.
