Cultural programmes marking first anniversary of July uprising

Today marks the first anniversary of July uprising and fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government. To mark the day, various cultural programmes have been arranged across the country.

The main cultural programme will be held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital today.  The event is organised by the cultural affairs ministry, coordinated by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and supported by the Secretariat of the Bangladesh National Parliament.

The event will begin at 11am. The programme will celebrate the “escape of the fascists”, read the historic July Declaration, and display the special drone drama “Do You Miss Me?”.

A special drone drama show “Do You Miss Me?” will be organised from 7.30 pm to 8.00 pm. The drama is written by ‘The Anonymous’. This “drone show” jointly organised by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of China will highlight the story of July by flying about 2000 drones.

There will also be various festive events throughout the day, including air shows, musical performances and screenings of “36 Days of July” and other documentaries.

Ethun Babu, Moushumi, Farzana Wahid Shayan, warfaze, souls, F Minor and others will perform at the event.

Cultural programmes marking first anniversary of July uprising Popular singer Shayan will perform “Julaiyer Gaan”, “Ami Gaichhi Sabhar Jonno” and “Tajjob Bone Jai”. Artistes Ethun Babu and Moushumi will perform “Deshta Tomar Baper Naki” (Moshumi), “Ganajagraner Gaan” (Chorus), “Ma” (Palash) and “Amader Bangladesh” (Moushumi).

The final event of the day will be a performance by the music band Artcell at 8:00pm.

On the other hand, theatre troupe “Bhoirobee Geetranga” will stage their monsoon revolution production “Agni Sraban” as part of July Punarjagaran Natyotsab 2025 at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Sponsored by Cultural Affairs Ministry and organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the play has been directed by Ilias NabI Faisal.

The probable cast of the play includes Arpita, Aparajita, Atanu, Ayra, Biplob, Dhrubo, Deepto, Fahmida, Ikra, Rajib, Nandita, Parmita, Pritom, Nodi, Lamia, Sifat, Soha, Ankon, Swapnil, Tomo, Protyasha, Rommo, Orthi, Nobel, Riya, Jitu, Arif, Ayreen, Himel, Ishaan, Atisha, Jyoti, Nazmul, Pinaki, Falguni and Partho. 

The mime troupe “Mime Art” has also organised a special programme on the day. The event will start at 6 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The event will be inaugurated by cultural figure Rezabuddaula Chowdhury, former information and research secretary of BNP and former president of (Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha) JASAS.

The event will feature poetry recitation, open discussion and the staging of the solo mime play “Rokte Agun Legechey” by mime art. This is the third staging of “Rokte Agun Legechey” made  in the context of the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement. In addition to acting, Nithar Mahbub is writing and directing it.

Besides, television channels will also air various programmes marking the day.

As part of month-long programmes, several special programs will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television (BTV) today.

The cultural programme organised in front of the National Parliament Building will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television. The broadcast of this event throughout the day will start from 11 am. In the evening, an artistic presentation of the drone show in memory of the July martyrs will be broadcast from in front of the Parliament Building.

In addition, a special discussion programme on the July uprising will be aired at 9 pm. Produced by Mamun Mahmud, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam will participate in the discussion.

The TV channel will also air Abdullah Al Mamun-produced drama “Rahugras” at10pm.
