The High Court on Sunday asked the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the video footage of the rape incident of Muradnagar upazila, circulated through the social media, from social networking sites.
The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur passed the order responding to a writ petition filed by Advocate Mir AKM Nurunnabi and asked the BTRC to submit a progress report in this regard on July 14.
The HC also asked the authorities concerned to ensure security of the rape survivor and provide necessary treatment to her.
Deputy Attorney General Tanim Khan and Assistant Attorney General Ikramul Kabir stood for the state.
The 25-year-old woman was raped at Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla on the night of June 26.
The video footage of the torture incident went viral in the social networking sites on Saturday.
Police arrested the prime accused identified as Fazar Ali Fazar, 36, son of Shahid Mia of Bahechar (Purbo Para) village in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, from Dhaka’s Sutrapur area early Sunday.
Four more accused—Sumon, Ramjan Ali, Md Arif and Md Anik were also arrested in this connection from Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district.
