Dhaka came to a standstill as students from different colleges and private varsities blocked various city streets as part of the ongoing quota reform movement.
After 12noon on Tuesday, students from Dhaka College, Ideal College, City College, Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College started gathering in Science Lab intersection, causing huge traffic congestion in and around the area.
BM College and Infra Polytechnic Institute students blocked the Dhaka-Barishal highway near the Nathullabad bus terminal, around 11:30 am, halting all types of vehicular movement, while Barishal Polytechnic Institute students chanted slogans for quota reforms.
Meanwhile, the students of North South University have also blocked the street in front of their campus in capital’s Bashundhara residential area.
Police are deployed at Merul Badda and Bashundhara areas.
Police are working with patience to control the overall situation and are urging students to clear the roads.
Prime-Asia University students took position on Banani Road at 12pm, halting traffic completely in the Banani neighbourhood.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station Kazi Shahan Haque said, “The students have blocked the road in Banani.” They are being urged to move from the road.”
