A Dhaka court has placed Dilip Kumar Agarwal, managing director of Diamond World Limited, on a six-day fresh remand in connection with the murder of teen Hridoy Ahmed during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Badda in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain passed the remand order on Thursday after a hearing.
Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam Khan of the Gulshan Division of the Detective Branch (DB), produced Agarwal at court and pleaded to place the accused on a 10-day remand for further questioning. Agarwal’s lawyer submitted a bail application requesting the cancellation of the remand. The state opposed the bail request. After the hearing, the court placed him on a six-day remand.
Agarwal was arrested on the night of September 3 from Aakash Tower at Gulshan. The following day, he was produced before a court and the court remanded him for three days in the case filed with Badda Police Station. After his initial remand expired, he was sent to jail on September 7.
According to the case documents, Hridoy Ahmed was shot dead around 2pm on July 19 in front of BRAC University at Badda during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
A case was filed by a man named Shahadat Hossain Khan, implicating 161 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
