Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ehsanullah has reportedly fled from the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah of Rajshahi under mysterious circumstances.
He has been missing since Wednesday morning (29 Oct), sparking widespread discussion and speculation across the region.
According to police sources, a team of Detective Branch (DB) officers conducted a raid at the Police Academy on Wednesday to arrest DIG Ehsanullah. He was facing allegations of involvement in crossfire incidents and extrajudicial killings.
At the time, he was serving as the head of the Supply Division at the academy and had previously worked as the Superintendent of Police in Barishal.
During the raid, Ehsanullah reportedly escaped from the academy, evading arrest.
Confirming the incident, Saiful Islam, superintendent of police (Administration) at the Bangladesh Police Academy, said, “DIG Ehsanullah has been absent from the academy since Wednesday. We were informed that a team from Dhaka came to arrest him. Efforts are underway to locate his whereabouts.”
Multiple police sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the DIG managed to flee on a motorcycle after learning that a team had arrived to detain him.
They added that Ehsanullah had prior knowledge of the impending arrest and was prepared to escape at any moment.
