A discussion meeting titled “Establishing communal harmony, preventing terrorism and resolving social problems” was held at the Shahid AK Shamsuddin Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the town on Thursday (May 29) afternoon.
The programme, which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Nazrul Islam, was jointly organized by the District Administration and Islamic Foundation’ Sirajganj Unit.
At the beginning of the program, the Holy Quran was recited by Hafez Maulana Md. Tariqul Islam, Pesh Imam of the District Model Mosque, while the Hindu scripture ‘Gita’ was recited by Shri Durjoy Kumar Sanyal, Priest of Kalibari Temple, that impressed everyone present at the event as a shining example of religious harmony.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Nazrul Islam said, “Bangladesh is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country. People of all religions live here peacefully. Everyone must remain aware and united to maintain the tradition of communal harmony.”
“The administration is taking a strict stance in suppressing terrorism and militancy. However, legal measures alone are not enough without social awareness,” he added.
Md. Faruk Hossain, Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj spoke as a special guest at the event.
He said, “The law enforcement agencies are on alert so that no one can incite violence by misinterpreting religion. At the same time, each of us must convey the message of awareness to our families, society and religious institutions.”
The meeting was also addressed by Md. Saidur Rahman Bachchu, member of the central BNP executive committee and general secretary of the district BNP and Maulana Md. Shahinur Alam, Sirajganj district Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
They emphasized on maintaining peace and harmony in the society by forgetting political differences.
Maulana Md. Ruhul Amin, president of the Imam Samiti, Maulana Md. Nazrul Islam, Muhtamim of Railway Qawmi Madrasa, Maulana Md. Abdus Samad, Pesh Imam of Sadar Hospital Jame Mosque, Maulana Md. Abdus Samad, Imam of the central Jame Mosque, Hafez Mufti Md. Abdullah, Imam of the Model Mosque and Maulana Md. Tariqul Islam among others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers at the program laid special emphasis on religious tolerance, social awareness, prevention of drugs and terrorism, women’s safety and instilling human values.
