Detectives have arrested dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser from the capital’s Mirpur area.

He was arrested early Monday, confirmed Joint Commissioner of the Detective Branch Mohammad Nasirul Islam.

A DB source said that Afzal Naser was arrested based on the interrogation of former army officer Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, known as one of the main masterminds of the 1/11, and former Director General of the Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI) Lieutenant General (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled.

Afzal Naser served as a DGFI director from March 2006 to March 2008.

He was allegedly among those involved in the torture of political leaders and businessmen while they were in custody during his tenure in DGFI.
