Dismissed trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th batch are staging a sit-in protest in front of the Secretariat, demanding reinstatement to their positions.

The protest took place on Monday at noon, organized under the banner of the 40th (cadet) Sub-Inspector 2023 batch.

The protesters stated that after joining training on November 4, 2023 and completing it successfully, 321 trainees were dismissed in four phases for various reasons instead of being appointed to their posts.

Sajidul Islam, one of the protesters, said: “After completing our training, instead of posting us, 321 trainees were dismissed for trivial reasons. For example, 203 were dismissed for skipping breakfast, 49 for not following commands during field drills, 58 for being inattentive in class, 3 for skipping marching sessions and 8 for making noise on the field. We appeal to the government to reinstate us immediately.”

Alamgir Hossain added: “We have submitted applications and memorandums to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Home Ministry, and other relevant authorities. We have been staging peaceful protests in front of the Secretariat for several days, hoping for a resolution Monday. If no decision is made, we will announce our next course of action.”

Another protester, Anamika Saha, said: “We sacrificed a lot during our year-long training, often working without pay. Just when we were supposed to be regularized, we were dismissed. Now, we are left wandering the streets, hoping to regain our jobs.”

Over 50 affected cadet sub-inspectors from the 40th batch were present during the protest.
