Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has assured his full support to the family of student-martyr Abu Sayed, emphasizing that his office will stand by them and that “my door will always be open for you.”

In a heartfelt meeting held on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, Dr Yunus expressed solidarity with the family and reiterated the interim government’s commitment to a swift investigation and justice for Abu Sayeed’s murder.

During the meeting, Abu Sayed’s brothers, Ramzan Ali and Abu Hossain, shared with Dr Yunus how their family was moved to tears when he honored Abu Sayed and other martyrs during his recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“We felt deeply honored by the Chief Adviser’s words about Abu Sayed’s heroic role in the revolution,” said Ramzan Ali.

“We were honoured that you highlighted his heroic role in the revolution and also visited us in our village in Rangpur just a day after you had become the Chief Adviser,” Ramzan Ali, an elder brother of Abu Sayed, told Professor Yunus.

The two brothers shared the podium with Professor Muhammad Yunus when the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the Guard Salute to the Chief Adviser.

Abu Sayed’s family further expressed their desire for justice, urging that those responsible for his death face exemplary punishment.

In addition, Abu Hossain announced plans to establish a foundation in Abu Sayed’s name to support the poor and the families of those who perished in the July-August uprisings.

The family also intends to build a model mosque and a medical college in his memory and has already applied to two ministries for support with these initiatives.

Dr Yunus praised Abu Sayed’s contribution, saying: “Bangladesh will never forget what Abu Sayed did for the nation. His sacrifice played a crucial role in the popular uprising against tyranny.”

Prof Yunus visited Abu Sayed’s parents at Babonpur village in the northern district of Rangpur on August 9, just a day after he took over as the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government.
