The National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Saturday (December 7) seized 733 grams of gold from a drama artiste and a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
The market value of the seized gold is Tk 69 lakh. They were arrested from a Dubai-Chittagong-Dhaka return flight (BG 148) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Saturday morning.
The artiste was identified as Aunamika Juthi while the passenger was Mohammad Raihan Iqbal of Rouzan in Chittagong. Shah Amanat International Airport’s Public Relations Officer Engr Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil confirmed it.
He said being tipped off, a NSI Chittagong Airport team and a CIID team jointly conducted search the two passengers on board the flight at the directive of the director of the airport. It was found that Aunamika Juthi was wearing the gold made bangles on her both hands wrapping with scotch-tape and carrying chains on her neck concealing tactfully.
He further said another passenger was carrying his gold ornaments in his handbag.
Both of them arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport on Saturday morning by Dubai-Chittagong-Dhaka flight (BG-148) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Since they were the passengers of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, they were returned to Dhaka by the same flight as per the aviation rules and handed over to the NSI Dhaka and CIID teams at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport.
The market value of the seized gold bangles and chains are Tk 68 lakh 96 thousand 462.
