The district Chhatra Dal and its affiliated organizations on Wednesday brought out a procession and held a rally in Sirajganj town protesting to the killing of Dhaka University (DU) student and Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Sammyo.
The procession that brought out from Sirajganj Government College marched several main streets in the town. It was also followed to a rally, where District Sechchhasebok Dal convener Abdullah Al Kayes, District Chhatra Dal President Junayed Hossain Sabuj, General Secretary Serajul Islam Seraj and other leaders spoke on the occasion.
District Chhatra Dal President Junayed Hossain Sabuj said, “Sammyo’s blood will not be allowed to go in vain. Those, who hacked him to death must be identified and brought to justice quickly.”
Sechchhasebok Dal convener Abdullah Al Kayes said, “Sammyo was a talented student and an idealistic Chhatra Dal leader. He was killed in a planned manner. Those involved in this murder must be arrested quickly and given exemplary punishment. We will not leave the road until this brutal murder is tried.”
It is learned that Sammyo, a student of Sir A.F. Rahman Hall of Dhaka University, was riding a motorcycle at around 12:00am midnight on Tuesday (May 13) when he was passing by the Suhrawardy Udyan Mukta Mancha and he collided with another motorcycle. At one point in the altercation, the miscreants hit Sammyo on the right leg with a sharp weapon and fled. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a bloody state, where the doctor declared him dead.
Sammyo’s village home is in Sarataoil village of Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district. The news of his death has cast a shadow of grief over the area.
