The Election Commission (EC) today announced the schedule for 233 elections including Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC), Cumilla City Corporation (COCC) by-elections and 5 municipal elections. Voting for these elections will be held on March 9.

EC Secretary Jahangir Alam announced this schedule in a press conference at the Election Commission building on Wednesday (January 24) afternoon.

He said that the last day to submit nomination papers in the Returning Office for these 233 elections is February 13 and the selection of nominations at the Returning Office on February 15. Appeals of rejected candidates from the Returning Office will be disposed of on February 19 and 20. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 22. The allotment of symbols is on February 23. And polling on March 9 from 8 am to 4 pm.

The EC Secretary said that in this year’s local government elections, “EVMs” will be used in the general elections of city corporations, municipalities, and district councils and by-elections for various vacancies. Union Parishad (UP) general election and UP by-election will be held on “ballot paper”.

Jahangir Alam also said that the Regional Election Officer will perform the duties of Returning Officer for the Mymensingh and Cumilla City Corporation elections.
