Directive sent to secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division
Bogura Correspondent:
The Election Commission (EC) has imposed restrictions on vehicle movement ahead of the Bogura-6 by-election and the Sherpur-3 general election scheduled for April 9.
The movement of motorcycles will remain suspended from 12:00am on April 7 to 12:00am on April 10 in these two constituencies, said an EC directive signed by its deputy secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain.
According to the EC directive, from 12:00am on April 8 to 12:00am on April 9, the movement of taxicabs, private cars, pickups, microbuses, and trucks will be prohibited.
The directive was sent to the secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division.
The EC stated that restrictions will be relaxed in certain cases, involving emergency services, including medicine, healthcare, and newspaper services.
Exempted vehicles include long‑distance buses, one vehicle for each candidate and their election agents (subject to approval by the returning officer), and vehicles of BTRC and licensed telecommunications service providers.
The directive further noted that restrictions will be eased on national highways, ports, and major roads leading into or out of districts or metropolitan areas.
The EC instructed the Bogura and Sherpur district administrations to impose or relax the directive and further restrictions depending on local realities and necessities.
