Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin has said that government  efforts are going on to stabilise the prices of essential commodities, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan, urging media professionals to support these efforts.

Speaking at a scholarship cheque distribution event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday, the adviser said the prices of sugar, oil and onions have already shown a decline due to recent market interventions.

“We are striving to maintain a balance between supply and demand to ensure affordability,” Bashiruddin said, adding that achieving a sustainable market requires collective efforts and public cooperation.

Restrictions won’t harm St. Martin’s tourism industry, says Adviser Hassan Ariff

He also sought collaboration from journalists to achieve this goal.

Focusing on broader societal concerns, the adviser reflected on the challenges faced over the last 15 years, during which a culture of criminalisation emerged, fragmenting the state and creating a pervasive sense of fear across various sectors.

He also called on students to view knowledge acquisition as a continuous process and to remain determined in their pursuit of academic and professional success.
