TDS Desk:
As Eid draws closer, the excitement of shopping takes over. Almost half of this blessed month has passed, and the festive rush is in full swing.
But the big question arises—should you shop online for convenience or step into the bustling markets for a hands-on experience?
Each option comes with its own perks and pitfalls. While one offers ease, the other promises authenticity.
So, which should you choose?
CONVENIENCE VS EXPERIENCE
Online shopping is ideal for those who prefer avoiding crowded markets and shopping from the comfort of home, all variety in one place.
No long queues, no exhausting walks—just a few clicks and your Eid outfit is on its way.
But there’s a catch.
You can’t feel the fabric, assess the embroidery or try on the fit before purchasing.
Plus, deliveries take 3–4 days, sometimes longer.
“I once ordered a gorgeous embroidered dress online, only to receive something that looked nothing like the picture. It was a disaster,” shared Mitu Akhter, a university student in a page review section.
If you crave the true essence of Eid shopping, visiting stores is the way to go.
You can see, touch and try on your outfit before making a purchase.
The festive ambiance, the aroma of street food, and the sight of dazzling displays add to the experience of in-store shopping.
However, with the last days of Ramadan, markets become unbearably packed, making shopping a test of patience.
“I love the thrill of finding the perfect dress after hours of searching. It’s exhausting but worth it,” said Ayesha Khatun, a frequent Eid shopper.
VARIETY AND AVAILABILITY
Online shopping offers a limitless selection of styles, colors and brands at your fingertips — no need to hop from one shop to another.
However, digital perfection can be deceiving—what you see is not always what you get.
In-store shopping offers limited choices but comes with its own advantages.
Unlike online shopping, you can bargain with sellers, customize orders and walk out with your purchase in hand.
“Online shopping is tempting, but finding the right size is always a gamble,” said Tania, who prefers in-store purchases.
PRICE TAG OR TRAP
Online shopping has perks like flash sales, discount codes and bundle deals which make it seem cost-effective.
But beware—hidden shipping charges can be surprisingly high, sometimes almost half the cost of the outfit or thing.
While local markets give you room to haggle, often leading to better deals than what’s advertised online.
Plus, there are no unexpected delivery charges.
“If you know how to bargain, in-store shopping is always a win-win,” said Tasniya Farha, who swears by market shopping.
But there is a travel cost that you have to keep in mind.
Also some fixed-price shops tend to be overpriced, offering no room for bargaining.
RETURNS AND EXCHANGES MADE SIMPLE
Online shopping can be a gamble. Some stores have strict return policies, while others refuse to accept returns at all. Prepayment policies also add risk, as not all sellers are reliable.
In-store shopping lets you swap sizes or designs instantly if something doesn’t fit: no waiting, no hassle.
“I once paid in full for an online order and the page disappeared the next day. Never again!” complained Rafi Bin Asad, recalling a bad experience.
If convenience and variety top your list, online shopping is the way to go.
But if you prioritize quality and fit, hitting the stores is the smarter choice. Want the best of both worlds?
Browse designs online first, then visit stores to finalize your pick.
Happy Eid shopping!
